The first civilian orbital mission returns to Earth: SpaceX-News

[ad_1]

On Saturday, four space tourists ended their groundbreaking orbital journey and crashed in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Florida.

Their SpaceX capsule landed into the sea before sunset, not far from where their charter flight started three days ago.

The fully amateur crew is the first to travel the world without a professional astronaut.

SpaceX’s first private crew to inspire children with cancer from orbit

The billionaire who paid millions of dollars for this trip and his three guests wanted to prove that ordinary people can launch into orbit by themselves. SpaceX founder Elon Musk made them the company’s first rides. Rocket tourists.

SpaceX’s fully automated Dragon capsule reached an unusually high altitude of 585 kilometers after being lifted off on Wednesday night. Over 160 kilometers from the International Space Station, passengers can enjoy the view of the Earth through the large bubble-shaped windows added to the top of the space capsule.

Earlier on Saturday night, the four traveled through the atmosphere. They were the first space travelers to end their flight in the Atlantic Ocean since Apollo 9 in 1969. The two previous crew splashes of SpaceX-transporting astronauts for NASA-were in the Gulf of Mexico.

This time, NASA is nothing more than an encouraging bystander. Its only relationship is that the Kennedy Space Center launch pad was once used for the Apollo moon landing and space shuttle crew, but is now leased by SpaceX.

The sponsor of the trip, Jared Isaacman, 38, is an entrepreneur and successful pilot who aims to raise $200 million for the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. He himself donated 100 million U.S. dollars and held a lottery for one of the four seats. He also hosted a competition for clients of his payment processing business Shift4 Payments in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

Also flying with him were 29-year-old St. Jude’s physician assistant Hayley Arceneaux, who was a physician’s assistant who was treated for bone cancer at Memphis Hospital in Tennessee nearly 20 years ago, and 42-year-old Contest winner of Chris Sembroski, a data engineer in Everett, Washington. And Sian Proctor, 51, an educator, scientist, and artist from a community college in Tempe, Arizona.

Strangers until March, they spent six months training and preparing for possible emergencies during the flight, which is called Inspiration4. Most things seem to be going well, allowing them time to chat with St. Jude patients, conduct medical examinations on themselves, ring the closing bell of the New York Stock Exchange, and do some painting and ukulele playing.

Arceneaux is the youngest American in space and the first American to have a prosthesis. She assured her patients, “I am a little girl undergoing cancer treatment, like many of you. If I can do , You can do it too.”

They also received calls from Tom Cruise and Bono of the rock band U2, who was interested in his own SpaceX flight to the space station.

Even their space menu is not typical: cold pizzas and sandwiches, spaghetti bolognese and Mediterranean lamb.

Nearly 600 people have arrived in space-this scorecard started 60 years ago, and is expected to soar soon as space tourism heats up.

SpaceX director Benji Reed predicts that there will be as many as six private flights a year, sandwiched between NASA astronaut launches. SpaceX has booked four flights, accompanied by former NASA astronauts, to take paying customers to the space station. The first goal is that by the beginning of next year, three businessmen will each pay $55 million. Russia also plans to hire an actor and film director next month, and a Japanese tycoon in December.

Customers interested in fast space travel are turning to Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic and Jeff Bezos’s Blue Origin. The two took their rockets to the edge of space in July to stimulate ticket sales; their flight lasted 10 to 15 minutes.
