British driver Olivier Webb on Friday 3road In December 2021, double victory for James Hunt’s iconic Hesketh 308. This is the “Back to the Future” weekend at Dubai Autodrome. An estimated 5,000 spectators flocked to Motorcity’s venues to experience the nostalgia of Formula One cars and sports cars.

In addition to countless activities during the assembly and on the day of the competition, the event also paid tribute to Dubai’s first F1 demo race in 1981 and the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the UAE, creating a real festive atmosphere for the venue.

As the winner of the 2021 Formula One Championship will be decided in the region this month, it is fitting to witness the running of some of the great cars of the sport.

Weber is obviously excited about this occasion, because he likes to drive the classic No. 24 car maintained by GPX. Hunter drove this car to win his first F1 victory at the 1975 Dutch Grand Prix.

Around the Dubai Motor Speedway powered by Ford Cosworth V8, Weber was unrivaled, taking pole position with the best lap time of 1:55.648 in the 5.4 km Autodrome Grand Prix layout. Racing legend Chris Amon was the second fastest in 1974, ahead of former F1 driver Jean-Denis Deletraz driving Wrigley. Also on the grid are Le Mans champion Romain Dumas driving a bright yellow Emerson Fittipaldi in the 70s, as well as the former F2 champion who was also on duty at Surtees TS9b in that era. Andy Soucek.

In the race, Webber put down his hammer and was merciless, proud of Hunter Heskes, and won the fastest lap of more than 18 seconds. Dumas chased early until the car malfunctioned, forcing him to become a DNF rolling in from behind Fittipaldi. Grogor defeated Delatraz in second place, which ranked third, ahead of the Shadow duo Jamie Constable and Valentin Simonet, ranking fourth and fifth respectively.

Weber performed well in the second game. He also won the game, but it was not so easy. Grogol was second, five seconds behind, and Constable was on the well-deserved podium. Deletraz is ranked fourth and Simonet is in the top five.

Dumas’s death was disappointing, because Wrigley’s Le Mans championship was a favorite before the game and is expected to give Webber the highest honor. Although Soucek also encountered technical problems on Surtees. In addition to the historic F1 car, there are two Group C racing races. Several drivers participated in both races that day.

Marc Devis and Danny O’Connell shared the Spice SE90P and defeated Soucek and Webb by a large margin in the first game. They shared the cockpit of the Argo JM19D. Mathieu Baumel and Cyril Despres, who also drove Argo, previously finished second. In the second game, Devis and O’Connell were in almost the same situation, thus winning both Soucek and Webb. Third place is Bernhard van Oranje-Nassau driving Spice.UAE racer Saeed Al Mheiri also participated in the Argo JM16, Axel Jeffries also participated in the race, the latter had to withdraw due to a gearbox failure

In the final analysis, it can be said that the greatest honor of the first historic Dubai Grand Prix belongs to Weber. He said afterwards: “Being able to drive such an excellent car, James Hunt’s car and the sports car I drove this weekend are very special. This is A great event, I hope it will only get bigger and bigger.”

At the end of a successful racing and entertainment weekend, the past and future of the sport meet. Faisal Al Sahlawi, General Manager of Dubai Motor Speedway, commented: “It’s great to see the history of motorsport on the Dubai Motor Speedway show and on the track, for us Congratulations to Oli Webb for winning the F1 race. Congratulations to Marc Devis and Danny O’Connell for their success in Group C.

“Thank you to the teams and drivers who made this event special, as well as our sponsors, partners, the Dubai Autodrome team on the track, referees, officials, and of course the fans who have experienced this event,” Al Sahlawi added.

All eyes are now on the 2022 edition.
