The Indian Cricket Commission (BCCI) said on Sunday that the remaining games of the Indian Premier League (IPL), which was suspended in May due to Covid-19, will resume in the United Arab Emirates on September 19.
During the devastating second wave of Covid-19 in India, after several players and staff behind the scenes tested positive for the coronavirus, the IPL was suspended on May 4, leaving 31 games left.
BCCI announced in May that the remaining matches of the popular 2020 tournament will be held in the UAE in September and October.
IPL will restart against the Chennai Super Kings against the Mumbai Indians in Dubai on September 19, and then the Kolkata Cavaliers will face the Royal Challenger Bangalore in Abu Dhabi the next day.
Sharjah will host its first match on September 24, when Bangalore will face Chennai.
The first qualifier is scheduled to be held in Dubai on October 10th, while the knockout round (October 11) and the second qualifier (October 13) will be held in Sharjah.
Dubai will also host the finals scheduled for October 15th.
The eight-team IPL, with an estimated brand value of US$6.8 billion, is the richest 2020 league, attracting many of the best players from all over the world to the cricket fanatic India.
