The largest ever Dubai Airshow marks a major turning point in the recovery and growth of the international aerospace industry – Dubai Blog

The Dubai Air Show in 2021 officially became the largest event since it was first held in 1989, and the value of the deal announced this week was as high as 78 billion U.S. dollars. The event attracted more than 104,000 attendees and the trade audience increased by 50%, including global senior executives from 148 countries/regions. In terms of the number of visitors and the deals announced, the airshow is larger than in 2019 before the pandemic. This is also an important milestone for the defense and aerospace sector, announcing a series of transactions and agreements.

Some notable transactions that occurred during the event included Airbus’s announcement of orders and commitments for a total of 408 aircraft (269 confirmed orders and 139 commitments). These agreements cover all commercial aircraft series, including the first commitment to A350F cargo aircraft derivatives. Airbus released its latest global market forecast, outlining the gradual shift in demand from fleet growth to the accelerated phase-out of older, less fuel-efficient aircraft, resulting in a demand for approximately 39,000 new passenger and cargo aircraft. Among them, 15,250 aircraft (approximately 40%) were used for replacement.

On the opening day of the exhibition alone, airlines in the Indigo Partners portfolio ordered 255 A321neo series aircraft, including 29 XLRs. This includes Wizz Air’s order of 102 aircraft (75 A321neo + 27 A321XLR); Frontier 91 aircraft (A321neo); Volaris 39 aircraft (A321neo) and JetSMART 23 aircraft (21 A321neo + 2 A321XLR).

Boeing announced that it has ordered 72 737 Max from the new Indian airline Akasa Air. It also announced that it has ordered 11 737-800BCF freighters from the aircraft leasing company Icelease, nine modified 767-300BCF freighters from DHL, and two long-range 777F freighters from Emirates SkyCargo. Boeing has received orders for four passenger and cargo aircraft from Tanzania Airlines and three 777-300 wide-body aircraft from Emirates service provider Sky One FZE.

The UAE Ministry of Defense signed contracts worth AED 22.5 billion with contractors and suppliers in Europe, the United States and Asia at the air show. The UAE Air Force and Air Defense (Afad) signed a contract worth AED 11 billion with a company headquartered in Abu Dhabi on the first day. GAL, a subsidiary of the advanced technology company Edge Group, provides maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) and professional support services to the UAE Air Force and air defense departments.

The Tawazun Economic Council (Tawazun) and Airbus signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a wholly-owned facility in Abu Dhabi. The establishment of the subsidiary is part of Tawazun’s efforts to attract and promote long-term partnerships with major companies in the defense, aerospace, and aerospace sectors. Tawazun also signed a transaction worth 216.9 million euros with Aeroter to purchase 100 VRT500 helicopters.

The Dubai Airshow and the UAE Space Agency signed a memorandum of understanding on the second day of the event. The two parties will cooperate to further position the Dubai Air Show as an important platform for companies and investors in the aerospace sector. The partnership will provide support for organizations that wish to establish a presence in future events and enable aerospace companies to benefit from the participation, participation, networks and agreements created at the Dubai Airshow. The agreement will pay more attention to the aerospace industry in future activities, highlighting the continued growth and development of the international aerospace sector.
