The leaders of India, Australia, Japan and the United States announce new measures to meet common challenges

India, Australia, Japan and the United States pledged on Friday to work together to ensure peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region and the world.

The top leaders of the Group of Four announced a series of new measures to meet common challenges, and China has shown confidence in this strategic region. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi (Narendra Modi) said in a brief speech that to a certain extent, Quad will play the role of “a force of global interest” and expressed the belief that this kind of cooperation between the four democracies will ensure Peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region, and the world.

Modi was the first leader to speak at the first face-to-face gathering of four in the East Room of the White House at the invitation of the host, President Joe Biden. Biden had a meeting with Modi for more than an hour earlier in the day, and he described Modi as “my friend.”

At the opening of the summit, President Biden stated that the four democracies have come together to cope with common challenges from the new crown virus to the climate. “This group has democratic partners who have a common worldview and a common vision for the future,” he said.

“When we met six months ago, we made a concrete commitment to advance our common positive agenda for free and open up the meeting. Today, we are proud to say that we are making progress,” Biden said. Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison and his Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga are the other two leaders of the historic East Room.

Biden said that the vaccine program is on the right track, adding that Quad is taking action on climate change through a new zero-emission shipping partnership.

Biden said: “Today, we also launched a new four-person scholarship for students from each of our five countries/regions to study leading science, technical engineering, and mathematics (STEM) courses through the United States. Advanced degree.”

The four countries have a long history of cooperation. “We know how to complete the task. We meet the challenge,” Biden said.

Modi thanked Biden for organizing this historic first face-to-face summit. Modi said that the four countries came together for the first time in 2004 to provide support to the Indo-Pacific region. He said: “Today, when the world is struggling to cope with the Covid-19 pandemic, we meet again as Quads and work for the benefit of mankind.”

He said that the Quad vaccine program will provide great help to countries in the Indo-Pacific region.

“Based on our common democratic values, Quad decided to move forward with positive thinking,” he said. Whether it is supply chain or security, whether it is climate action or response to the new crown pneumonia, or cooperation in the field of technology, Modi said that he would be happy to talk to leaders at the meeting.

Australian Prime Minister Morrison said that the Indo-Pacific region should not be coerced and disputes should be resolved in accordance with international law, alluding to China.

“We believe in a free and open Indo-Pacific region, because we know that restrictions are freedoms that are strong, stable and prosperous…realize their hopes and dreams of living in a free and free society,” he said.

He said that Quad is to show how such democracies accomplish their tasks, and they can deal with huge challenges in a very complex and ever-changing world.

Morrison observed that no place in the world is more dynamic than the Indo-Pacific region. This region has extraordinary opportunities. Morrison said that there are many challenges that must be overcome.

Like the other three leaders, Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga emphasized the importance of the first face-to-face four-party summit, saying “This event demonstrates the strong unity between our four countries and the openness of the Indo-Pacific region. Make a firm commitment”.

“It is a pleasure to discuss with my friends a wide range of topics from supply chain to global security, from climate action to Covid response, to cooperation in the field of technology. In a sense, Quad will play a role in promoting global interests. I believe that our cooperation under Quad will ensure prosperity and peace in the Indo-Pacific region and the world,” Modi said.

Before the summit, the White House stated that in addition to discussing the challenges of the Indo-Pacific region, climate change and Covid-19, the leaders of the four countries will also announce a new space working group, supply chain initiatives, and 5G deployment and diversification. A pandemic during their historic meeting.

India, the United States and several other world powers have been discussing the need to ensure a free, open and prosperous Indo-Pacific region in the context of China’s increasing military exercises in the region.

China has sovereignty over almost all of the disputed South China Sea, but Taiwan, the Philippines, Brunei, Malaysia, and Vietnam all have sovereignty over some of them. Beijing has built artificial islands and military installations in the South China Sea.

Before the Quartet Summit, Modi met with his Australian and Japanese counterparts on Thursday, and they reiterated the importance of maritime security to the realization of a “free and open” Indo-Pacific region.
