Michelin’s Bib Gourmand listing refers to restaurants that offer “good value three-course meals,” i.e. establishments where diners can enjoy several courses for a certain amount (which varies according to the cost of living in the city).
“Around the world, our inspectors have been on-site monitoring the evolution of the culinary scene, and the same is true in Abu Dhabi; our inspectors have been working here for over six years,” Gwendal Poullennec, international director of the Michelin Guide, told National.
His focus on “casual local restaurants” may suggest that Abu Dhabi will have many Bib Gourmand presentations and that local cuisine will be in the spotlight.
“Our inspectors are monitoring the evolution of restaurant quality. They are finding very creative restaurants run or run by famous chefs, as well as an increasing number of local casual restaurants offering great culinary experiences at affordable prices, especially Serving Middle Eastern cuisine.”

Like the Dubai Guide, it will be digital, meaning all restaurants can be viewed for free on the Michelin website and app. When asked if it was possible to incorporate the UAE guide, Poullennec explained that the app would flag Michelin restaurants based on your location. So for now, the list will remain different, but the app will take a more comprehensive approach to restaurant recommendations.
