The Oman Pavilion continues to participate in Expo 2020 Dubai, as the country’s civilization is embodied in portraits of various eras, highlighting its vision and reality.
According to the Oman News Agency (ONA), this civilization stems from interactions that have shaped the vision of Omanis throughout history, and these interactions represent the preservation of their cultural and social identity.
During the large-scale event, Oman explained various stories of sustainable development, from connecting ideas to creating opportunities for the future, which are the same as the key themes of Expo 2020 Dubai.
The eye-catching design of the Oman Pavilion is inspired by the boswellia sacra tree. It was designed by two young Omani women; Rehab Al Zakwani and Alyaa Al Batashi, who developed supplements that represent the achievements of Omani youth in Oman.
10 Omani Boswellia trees were planted in the outer space around the pavilion, which were protected by the Oman Botanical Garden after being threatened by one of the Hasik Road expansion projects in the southern Sultanate of Oman in 2013. These natural trees are planted in a panoramic landscape and will be returned to the garden after the Expo.
The Oman Pavilion aims to highlight four key themes, namely sustainability, talent cultivation, communication and knowledge.
The pavilion consists of two floors: the first floor (mother tree), where visitors have a real meeting with the electromechanical design of the tree. The electromechanical design of the tree is located in the center of the hall, imitating the exact details of the tree, the natural tree, symbolizing many physics and emotions And spiritual meaning and its various practical uses.
On the wall, the panoramic screen shows the story of Omani frankincense from Wadi Duka and its journey through various civilizations of the world (trade in the Arabian Peninsula, mummification in ancient Egypt, Christian prayers in the Old Testament and traditional Chinese medicine) , In line with the theme of Expo 2020 Dubai, connecting ideas.
On the first floor, in the growth hall of the “Sustainable Forest”, visitors walk through the frankincense tree virtual forest made of transparent display screens to showcase eight different sustainable development stories in Oman.
These stories are about sustainable projects, namely the Million Date Plantation Project, the use of drone technology for pollination and fish farming, the use of Internet of Things (IoT) technology to feed fish, Dhofar’s renewable energy and wind energy Projects, sustainable cities, environmental protection, waste management, Oman Botanical Gardens, and the wonderful and unique terrain diversity of the Sultanate of Oman.
On the first floor, the Harvest Hall is the theme, showing the methods adopted by the Sultanate in cultivating talents and resources, as well as the transfer of skills and knowledge between generations and disciplines. It also emphasizes new ideas and opportunities to create a vibrant society.
This is a modern and active area that tells the story of Oman’s knowledge economy through the use of displays similar to frankincense crystals, focusing on people. For example, an Omani scholar who specializes in ancient times talks about frankincense, music, creative industries, women in higher fields, The emerging Oman company and the academic chairman of Sultan Qaboos.
There is also a trading hall on the first floor, which is a journey through time and space, from the wall of an ancient port (Al Baleed ruins) displaying the frankincense outlet until reaching the vision of the future of Oman.
The second and last floor is the use hall (future). It has a future professional knowledge interactive library, which represents a spiritual and future space, where visitors can enjoy a multi-sensory experience, starting from the future garden, and conducting field experiments on frankincense seedlings during the Expo.
Visitors to the Oman Pavilion can also enjoy aromatic capsules, which are specially used to smell different types of frankincense mixtures from Oman under the bright light passing through the frankincense crystals.
Expo 2020 Dubai will last until March 31, 2022, inviting people from all over the world to celebrate unity, opportunity, creativity and sustainability, which will help shape a better and brighter future for everyone.
