Major General William Taylor said there was no second explosion at a nearby hotel

The Pentagon said on Friday that the deadly attack in the Afghan capital Kabul on Thursday was carried out by a suicide bomber at the airport gate, and there was no second explosion in a nearby hotel.

The Islamic State claimed that the attack on the Kabul Airport on Thursday killed 13 American troops and at least 79 Afghans.

Major General William Taylor told reporters: “I can confirm to you that we do not believe that the second explosion occurred at or near the Baron Hotel. This is a suicide bomber.” He said that the US military injured in the attack is now working. Germany receives treatment.

Pentagon spokesman John Kirby told reporters that the United States believes that there is still a “concrete and credible” threat.

Kirby said: “Of course we are prepared and looking forward to future attempts,” he added: “We are monitoring these threats, very, very specific, almost real-time.”

Thursday’s attack occurred during the evacuation of tens of thousands of people led by the United States. Nearly two weeks ago, as foreign troops began to withdraw, ending the 20-year war, the Taliban came to power.

General Frank Mackenzie, the commander of the US Central Command, said Thursday that preliminary information is that two suicide bombers attacked the airport gate and the nearby Baron Hotel.
