The President of Vietnam approves the Abdala vaccine during his visit to Cuba | Coronavirus pandemic news

[ad_1]

Abdala became the eighth COVID-19 vaccine approved for use in Vietnam, which has one of the lowest vaccination rates in the region.

The Vietnamese government said on Saturday that Vietnam has approved Cuba’s Abdala vaccine for use against the new COVID-19 because the Southeast Asian country is battling the worst epidemic.

Abdala became the eighth COVID-19 vaccine approved for use in Vietnam. Vietnam has one of the lowest vaccination rates in the region, with only 6.3% of its 98 million people receiving at least two vaccinations.

The news was released a few hours after President Nguyen Xuan Phuc left Hanoi for an official visit to Havana.

Vietnam has recorded 667,650 coronavirus infections and 16,637 deaths, most of which are outbreaks driven by Delta mutations since late April.

The government said in a statement: “Based on the country’s urgent need to fight COVID-19, the Ministry of Health has approved the Abdala vaccine.”

The ministry said last month that Cuba would supply large quantities of Abdullah vaccine to Vietnam and transfer production technology before the end of the year.

Vietnam and Cuba, along with China, Laos, and North Korea, are the last five communist-ruled countries in the world.

In July this year, after a rare anti-government protest in Cuba, Vietnam urged the United States to end its “hostile policy” against Cuba and lift its long-term trade embargo.

Cuba has previously stated that its three-dose Abdala vaccine against the coronavirus has proven effective at 92.28%.
