The Schick Opera House was once Plainview’s premier entertainment venue

According to the Herald archives, it had a large stage, an orchestra pit and enough seating for about 1,000 patrons, with plenty of room and good acoustics, of course.

Its popularity began to decline in the 1920s as movies took off.

The interior looks very different today.

In 2021, Connie’s Compassionate Care purchased the building at 7^day and Ash and set about renovating with a new concept to create a commercial center.

They plan to take care of some exterior damage and create offices for their upcoming business.

While the interior has changed, the exterior retains its historic splendor as Plainview’s premiere opera house.

The Hale County Historical Commission is working to revive interest in local history and draw attention to some of the area’s forgotten sites of historic significance. The Herald, in partnership with the Historical Commission, will highlight prominent historic marker sites in Plainview and Hale County throughout the year. We will share fragments of their inscriptions, and perhaps other known details.
