The Taliban want the U.S. to exist in Kabul after the withdrawal-News

[ad_1]

US officials say that the new ruler of Afghanistan wants countries to keep their embassies open after the evacuation mission ends on August 3.

U.S. officials said on Friday that the Taliban had asked the U.S. to maintain a diplomatic presence in Kabul after the U.S. withdrawal, but Washington has not yet decided on its plan.

The official, who asked not to be named, said that the new ruler of Afghanistan wants countries to keep their embassies open after the evacuation mission ends on August 31.

After the Taliban took over on August 15, the remaining diplomats of the US Embassy fled to the safe US Kabul Airport.

But the US military is scheduled to leave Kabul on Tuesday within the deadline set and insisted by President Joe Biden. Therefore, if Biden continues to stay in Kabul, there will be no soldiers to protect diplomats.

In this case, since the United States is far from recognizing the Taliban government, the continued diplomatic presence of the United States in Kabul is a big question mark.

US officials say this issue is being debated within the government. They said that the safety of US officials is the top priority and may announce their decision as soon as the withdrawal is completed early next week.
