The UAE government announced today that federal government departments work four and a half days a week, effective from January 1, 2022. The new weekend will be Friday afternoon (starting at 12 noon), Saturday and Sunday.
According to a tweet issued by the UAE Media Office on Tuesday, December 7, the new system will be applied to federal government entities. Work 8 hours a day from Monday to Thursday, from 7.30 am to 3.30 pm, and work 4.5 hours on Friday, from 7.30 am to 12 pm.

The UAE Government Media Office stated in a tweet that the new longer weekend will “increase productivity and improve work-life balance”.
Friday sermons and prayers will be held at 1.15 pm throughout the year. There may also be flexible working hours and the option of working from home on Friday.
There is no word on whether this new long weekend will apply to the private sector.
