The Gulf Cooperation Council region accounts for four of the five preferred destinations for Indian workers to work overseas.

On Thursday, the Indian Parliament quoted statistics from the Government’s Immigration Bureau in the past five years to tell the Indian Parliament that the UAE is the most popular destination for Indians seeking jobs abroad.

The Minister of State for External Affairs, V Muraleedharan, told the House of People, the lower house of parliament, that the Gulf Cooperation Council region accounts for four of the five main destinations for Indian professionals and blue-collar workers to work overseas.

Muraleedharan told Lok Sabha member Dr. Manoj Rajoria that the United States is the only non-Gulf country among the top five, and he tried to understand “from a national perspective, where Indian youth have the most employment abroad.”

The minister said that the UAE is followed by Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United States and Oman in descending order.

“In order to promote the safe and legal overseas employment of young people, especially young people from socially disadvantaged groups who are eager to work abroad, the government has established an electronic immigration portal that contains detailed information about registered recruitment agents in the country,” he said. Add to. “The portal also details the names of unregistered/illegal agents working in various states,” to remind job seekers to fall victim to cheating.

According to India’s immigration laws, semi-skilled and unskilled workers who go abroad must obtain an immigration permit from the Office of Immigration Protection (POE) in advance. Occupations notified by POE from time to time also require immigration permission in advance.

Muraleedharan said that in the past five years, overseas workers who needed to obtain immigration permits came from the following states in descending order of number. These states are Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan.
