Your question, answer…
Tuesday, December 7, 2021, UAE government announces great changes By the work week. Starting on January 1, 2022, federal employees will begin a four-and-a-half-day work week, running from Monday to Friday, and applying the new working hours.
Since the announcement, many problems have followed. So far, our understanding of this change is as follows:
What are the new working hours?
Government employees will be required to work between 7.30 am and 3.30 pm from Monday to Thursday and between 7.30 am and 12 pm on Friday. Friday sermons and prayers will be held at 1.15 pm throughout the year. There may also be flexible working hours and the option of working from home on Friday.
How many days does the school start?
Following the earlier announcement, it has been confirmed that the school will also start classes from Monday to Friday from January 1, 2022.
What about the private sector?
Private companies in the UAE are not required to comply with government working hours, so it is unlikely that we will receive a formal announcement to change the working day in the private sector. However, Human Resources and Emirates Minister Dr. Abdul Rahman Abdul Mannan Al Awar urged private sector companies to follow suit.
Will we have a long weekend on New Year’s Day?
Usually, January 1st will be Public holidays in the UAEHowever, next year is Saturday, which is the weekend for most employees. As the weekend changes during the New Year holidays, this may mean that the weekends for government workers will be Friday, December 31, Saturday, January 1, and Sunday, January 2 (at the discretion of the private sector employer).
