The embassy remains open at its current location and continues to perform its priority functions.

The Pentagon said on Thursday that as the threat of the Taliban insurgency increases, it is immediately deploying about 3,000 soldiers to Afghanistan to safely evacuate US Embassy employees.

Defense Ministry spokesperson John Kirby said: “The first operation will consist of three infantry battalions currently in the Central Command’s area of responsibility. They will be transferred to Hamidkar in Kabul in the next 24 to 48 hours. Zai International Airport.”

“Given the changing security situation, we are further reducing our civilian footprint in Kabul,” State Department spokesperson Ned Price told reporters.

“This president puts the safety and security of Americans serving overseas first,” he said of Joe Biden, who ordered the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan nearly 20 years later.

Price said that the embassy will remain open at its current location and “continue to perform its priority functions”, but did not deny reports that the work may be transferred to Hamid Karzai International Airport.

Price said the United States will start sending daily flights to evacuate translators and other American aid workers who are afraid of their lives because of the Taliban’s offensive.

At the same time, the British government also said on Thursday that after the United States announced a similar deployment, as the Taliban made rapid progress, it was sending troops to Afghanistan to help its embassy staff leave the country.

Secretary of Defense Ben Wallace said: “I have authorized the deployment of more military personnel to support the diplomatic presence in Kabul, assist British nationals to leave the country, and support the relocation of former Afghan staff who risked their lives to serve with us. .”
