Dana also issued a statement on the news, saying that it was exciting to finally get a passport. She went on to explain that the goal is to help the next generation of intersex people gain recognition and become full citizens with rights, not to travel the world.
State Department spokesperson Ned Price issued a statement on this change. He said: “As this passport is issued, I want to reiterate the State Department’s commitment to promoting freedom, dignity and equality for all people, including LGBTQI+ people. “
Ned Price stated that the department plans to provide this option to all passport applicants after the update of the system and its forms is completed in early 2022.
