A high-speed train bound for Prague collided with a commuter train, killing the driver and a female passenger.
According to local authorities, when a high-speed train from Munich, Germany to Prague collided with a commuter passenger train in the Czech Republic, at least three people were killed and more than 40 others were injured.
The police said that a car accident occurred shortly after 8 am local time (06:00 GMT) on Wednesday. The victims were the drivers of two trains and a female passenger.
In the town of Miravce, 140 kilometers (87 miles) southwest of Prague, four people who were seriously injured in the incident were taken to the hospital by helicopter. The other seven people need surgery.
According to the regional rescue agency, another 31 people were slightly injured. Four helicopters are transporting the injured to a nearby hospital.
Jaroslav Hrdlicka, the commander of the regional fire department, told Czech TV that rescuers were still looking for a missing person in the wreckage.
The Czech Transport Minister Karel Havlicek said on Twitter that the accident may have been caused by human error. He claimed that the driver of the high-speed train “passed a signal to stop.”
“The situation is serious,” Havlicek said, as he rushed to the crash site.
The TV picture of Czech TV showed that the cab of the express locomotive and the front of the local locomotive were smashed.
Both trains remain upright on or near the track.
