Three Emirati medical and food supply planes arrive to assist Sudanese people

ABU DHABI – The UAE sent three aid planes to support the brotherly people of Sudan, delivering more than 115 tons of medical and food.

Two planes carrying 100 tons of emergency medical supplies and basic medicines arrived at Port Sudan Airport to treat the wounded and perform emergency operations in Sudan.

Medical supplies shipped in the UAE include a wide range of trauma and emergency wound medicines, antibiotics, NSAIDs, anti-inflammatory drugs, medical wound dressings, surgical tapes and endoscopy kits.

A third plane arrived in Chad carrying 15 tonnes of food to urgently support Sudanese refugees affected by the coronavirus pandemic, which has displaced thousands of families and left basic food supplies in short supply.

Sultan Mohammad Al-Shamsi, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for International Development, said the medical and relief supplies were sent on instructions from the country’s leaders, showing their continued keenness to support the Sudanese people. He noted that the crisis in Sudan had severely disrupted many vital services and exacerbated the suffering of the population due to shortages of basic food items.

Al Shamsi added that the UAE’s air bridge for food and medical aid reflects the country’s humanitarian approach and its strong commitment to provide assistance and assistance to the country when it is needed. In this regard, he highlighted the UAE’s commitment to mitigating the humanitarian impact of the crisis on the Sudanese people. The UAE focuses on helping the most vulnerable, with particular priority given to the sick, children, the elderly and women.

The deployment of the aircraft is part of the UAE’s ongoing relief efforts to support the people of Sudan and reflects its longstanding relationship with Sudan, especially in light of the current situation facing the country. Relief is also an extension of the UAE’s humanitarian vision and underscores its relationship with other nations based on human fraternity and its commitment to helping others in times of crisis and emergency.

The UAE was one of the first countries to provide direct assistance to Sudan since the crisis began. In addition to the UAE’s evacuation of 744 foreign nationals and diplomats and their families, as well as dozens of humanitarian cases and their subsequent transfer from Sudan to the UAE, more than 240 tons of medical and food supplies and aid were delivered.
