The Maryland Renaissance Festival in Cronsville runs Saturday and Sunday through October 23rd, with a weekend of thrills, feasts, crafts, entertainment and fun.
Every fall, the 27-acre village of Revel Grove comes alive with more than 200 professional performers on 10 stages, a 3,000-seat arena, armoured battles on majestic steeds, and villages lining the streets figure.
Join over 140 artisans in forests and glades with HRH King Henry VIII to showcase handicrafts in their own Renaissance shop, 5 bistros serving cool drinks and 42 succulents and sweets in the food and beverage mall.
The near-continuous stage entertainment includes many returning favorite performers such as Shakespeare’s Skum, the 20-minute bard’s most popular play, as well as bards, magicians, musicians, jugglers and daring tricks and Performance of art. Returning this season is equestrian troupe Debracey Productions, with a racecourse filled with horses, men in armour, chariots, stunt riding and thrills.
Major add-ons include Markita’s One Woman Stunt Show; Hilby, the skinny German juggling boy; Danger Council’s throwing knives; and the fast-paced humor of Vomiting and Snot. Join a village full of stilt walkers, beggars, hermits, wenchmen, pickpockets, rakes and hooligans not only to see, but to immerse in.
Artifacts made by artists in Renaissance shops include metalwork, woodcarving, jewelry, furniture, clothing, footwear, ceramics, stained glass, headwear, and glass blowing.
King’s Kitchen prepares a pound of smoked turkey legs, steak, fresh crepes, stuffed peppers, gyros, juicy ribs, fresh seafood raw bars, sweet concoctions and chicken, fish, crab, beef and pork sandwiches to add to your table way of the edge. Refreshing, mild beverages are also available, along with a range of beers, ciders and wines.
