The leader of the team that discovered the wreckage of the Titan submersible was emotional as he described how the rescue effort turned into a recovery operation.

Deep Sea Research Services laid out a timeline for responding to an emergency on Titan in a press conference tonight.

“Our attention is always on the crew of the Titan,” Ed Cassano, the company’s chief executive, told the media as he described its efforts to find the submersible.

“Simply put, we’re focused on rescue,” he added.

Speaking to reporters, Cassano apologized, fighting back tears, and said the team was dealing with “a lot of emotions.”

He asked everyone to recognize the “seriousness of the incident” and “respect the emotional range of the participants.” Mr Cassano said his team, as part of the fleet, was a “major asset” in “carrying out the rescue”.
