The Tolerance Oval in Abu Dhabi has become the fourth venue in the UAE to receive approval from the world governing body to host international cricket matches.
The Abu Dhabi Cricket and Sports Centre’s facility has been fully accredited by the International Cricket Council as a day and night venue, meaning it can host T20 and one-day international matches two years after opening.
Along with Dubai International Stadium, Sharjah Cricket Stadium and the capital’s Zayed Cricket Stadium, Tolerance Oval becomes the fourth ICC-certified stadium of its kind in the country.
Following the announcement, Abu Dhabi Cricket and Sports Centre CEO Matt Butcher said: “Our vision for the Abu Dhabi Cricket and Sports Centre is two-pronged; we want our incredible venue to Capable of hosting the highest level of international events while meeting the needs of the 760,000 community sports athletes who use our facilities each year.
“The Tolerance Oval is a prime example of this vision, having hosted the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup warm-up match, Indian Premier League 2021, Pakistan Premier League 2021, Abu Dhabi T10 2021 and the last 12 teams of the inaugural T20. The Abu Dhabi Community Cup Final in April.
“We also want the UAE Cricket Council to have a fourth international venue, making Abu Dhabi more capable of hosting large, multi-venue global matches and tournaments.”
UAE Cricket Council Secretary-General Mubasir Usmani added: “We applaud Abu Dhabi Cricket for adding another ICC-certified stadium to their grounds and to the UAE’s world-class cricket offering. It immediately Supports the country’s cricket offering and further establishes the UAE as one of the world’s best sports destinations, while enhancing Emirates Cricket’s ability to host and deliver multi-venue ICC tournaments and the world’s best franchise competitions. “
The Tolerance Oval has a total of 9 turf pitches and 5 broadcast-operated turf wickets with full LED floodlights and a range of training facilities, including 20 natural turf wickets in the nearby international net zone.
ECB inspectors gave the Tolerance Oval the highest rating in 17 out of 29 categories, followed by ICC approval.
Following accreditation, England’s men’s Test team will be one of the first major international teams to use the facility. They will attend training camp in Abu Dhabi on November 18 before training on a trip to Pakistan this winter and will face the Lions in a three-day warm-up match at Tolerance Oval on November 23 opponent duel.
