Tom Cruise and the late Queen Elizabeth are said to be “really in tune” when they invited him to tea in her final weeks.
The 60-year-old “Top Gun: The Maverick” actor was also allowed to land a helicopter on Her Majesty’s lawn, The Times reported.
It said on Sunday (6 Nov 22) that the Queen was disappointed she was not able to meet Tom at her Platinum Jubilee event, which celebrated her 70th anniversary on the throne.
But a source familiar with the matter told The Times the late monarch, who died at her Balmoral home on September 8 at the age of 96, “liked seeing him” when she invited him to tea in the summer.
They added that Tom was invited back for lunch, but the Queen died before that.
The pair are said to have met at an equestrian event called “A Ride Through History” at the Windsor Castle grounds in May.
A source told The Times of his visit after they missed each other: “The Queen let people know she was very disappointed not to have met Tom at the pageant.
“So he was invited on a special trip to Windsor Castle and everything was set up for him. After that, it was just the two of them drinking tea together.
“She loved seeing him and they really hit it off that she invited him back for lunch.”
Tom, who filmed his latest Mission: Impossible film in the UK, said of the Queen earlier this year: “She’s just a woman I admire a lot. I think she’s a very dignified person and I admire her of dedication.
“What she achieved is historic. I just remember seeing pictures of her all the time as a kid.”
