Market-leading foreign exchange brand Travelex says it has created and filled more than 180 new jobs in the Middle East in the past six months.
The company also announced today the creation of an additional 1,200 new international jobs. The announcement follows a string of major new contract wins across Asia Pacific, Europe, Metropolis and the UK as international travel and foreign exchange markets continue their strong post-pandemic recovery.
In the MET region, Travelex recently opened its 30th store at Dubai International Airport, the world’s busiest international airport. The company also recently opened a new store at Al Doha Al Jadeda Metro Station in Qatar and a new mobile kiosk at Hamad International Airport ahead of this year’s FIFA World Cup.
In the UK, more than 1,000 new jobs are being created in the retail, wholesale and headquarters business sectors as new contracts are won and UK tourism rebounds. Travelex recently launched a full range of bureau and ATM services at London Stansted Airport, the fourth largest airport in the UK, and an ATM and bureau service at East Midlands Airport.
Travelex has also won contracts for 11 stores and 34 ATMs at Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and Belfast international airports and is now the main foreign exchange provider for all Northern Ireland international airports and major Scottish international airports. In addition, the company recently signed renewed contracts with two leading supermarkets to provide them with a wide range of retail foreign exchange services.
In the ANZ region, Travelex is creating more than 100 retail and head office jobs. These include positions at Travelex’s new airport stores in Adelaide, Brisbane and Cairns. In addition, Travelex recently launched a new ATM at Darwin International Airport and will open more than a dozen new stores in well-known shopping centres and major cities in Australia and New Zealand.
In Europe, Travelex said it had won a contract at Cologne Bonn Airport, where the company will provide a full range of offices, ATMs and mobile counters. Travelex will also expand its service at Frankfurt Airport with two mobile counters and has just signed a five-year contract with Zurich Airport.
In addition, Travelex opened two new concept stores at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol earlier this year. Across Europe, more than 60 new job vacancies have been created to support this growth.
In Asia, Travelex is hiring for more than 50 positions in Singapore and Malaysia as airport terminals reopen. The company announced today that it has signed a two-year extension with Singapore’s Changi Airport and will re-open its store at Changi Terminal 2, which will soon reopen.
Travelex is also expanding its store network at Kuala Lumpur International Airport and Penang International Airport to meet the resurgent travel demand. The company’s wholesale and partner businesses continued to expand as Japan reopened its borders, adding more than 55 new banking and corporate clients in the past 12 months.
Travelex Brazil has also created and filled more than 150 jobs in the commercial, retail and administrative sectors over the past six months.
Travelex’s growth in all of its international markets comes amid a strong recovery in the global travel industry: Asia-Pacific airlines saw passenger numbers rise 272.9% in April compared to a year earlier, while European air capacity is now at 88% of 2019 levels . In the Middle East, air passenger traffic in March was up 245.8% from a year earlier.
Travelex also recently announced the appointment of a new CEO, Richard Wazacz, who will take over on June 29. He joins from Brickvest, an online real estate marketplace, and prior to that Richard spent six years at Octopus Group, where he was the founding CEO of a number of new fintech ventures.
