Trevor Noah leaves The Daily Show | Entertainment

Trevor Noah is leaving The Daily Show.

The 38-year-old host has decided it’s “time” to leave the late-night talk show after seven years and admits he will be forever grateful to have been at the helm of the Comedy Central show for so long.

In a video posted to the show’s Twitter account before the episode aired on Thursday (29.09.22), he said: “One of the most important feelings I find myself going through… is a sense of gratitude.

“There are so many people who have brought this together, and I want to thank the audience for the wonderful seven years they’ve had.

“It was crazy. I remember when we first started, a lot of people didn’t believe us. It was a crazy bet. I still think it was a crazy choice…what a journey it was.

“It’s something I never expected, and I find myself thinking all the time, everything we’ve been through — the Trump presidency, the pandemic, just the journey, the pandemic getting worse.

“And I realized that after these seven years, my time has come. But honestly, in the most beautiful way.

Noah added, “I love hosting this show. It’s one of my biggest challenges. It’s one of my biggest joys. I love trying to figure out how to make people laugh, even when the story is particularly s— in The worst days. We laughed together and cried together. But seven years later, I think it’s time.”

The South African star paid tribute to show bosses for taking a chance on a “random comedian” unfamiliar to American audiences.

He added: “I’m really grateful for a network of random comedians who believe in this side of the world nobody knows.

“I never thought I’d be here. I’m kind of like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I came in and visited previous shows, and then the next thing I know, I got the keys. I can’t live without [the audience], I wouldn’t want to do it without you. “

According to Variety, Trevor told viewers during a taping of the show Thursday that he plans to focus on his stand-up work when he leaves the show.

The network confirmed that no date has been set for his departure.

A spokesman said: “We are grateful for Trevor’s amazing collaboration over the past seven years. With no timetable for his departure, we are working together on the next step.

“Going forward, we’re excited about this new chapter in The Daily Show’s more than 25-year history as it continues to redefine culture through poignant and entertaining social commentary that helps audiences understand the world around them.”

The Daily Show premiered in 1996 with Craig Kilborn at the helm, before Jon Stewart took over as Trevor from 1999 to 2015.
