On Tuesday, Donald Trump’s lawyers requested a meeting with U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland to discuss the work of a special counsel that is handling two investigations into the former president.

“Never in the history of our country has a President of the United States been investigated in such an outrageous and unlawful manner,” Trump wrote in a letter posted on social media.

They requested “a meeting with Garland at your earliest convenience to discuss the ongoing injustice being committed by your Special Counsel and her prosecutors.”

Garland appointed special counsel Jack Smith in November to handle two Trump investigations.

The first probe looks into whether anyone tried to interfere with the peaceful transfer of power after Trump lost the November 2020 election to President Joe Biden.

The second is to look at Trump’s keeping classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida after he leaves office in January 2021, and whether he tried to obstruct the Justice Department’s investigation.

Trump’s lawyers did not specify in the letter which investigation they wanted to discuss.

The letter was not signed by Evan Corcoran, who was forced to testify before a grand jury about his discussions with Trump about the material after a judge forced him to testify. Corcoran was recused from the classified documents investigation. Corcoran is still working with Trump’s legal team on the second probe.

Spokespeople for the Justice Department and Smith declined to comment on Trump’s attorney’s request to meet with Garland.
