Tadweer signs agreement with consultant for feasibility study

The Abu Dhabi Waste Management Centre (Tadweer) has signed a consultancy agreement with KEO International Consultants to carry out a feasibility study to develop a project to extract greenhouse gases from the Al Dhafra landfill and convert them into environmentally friendly energy.
This is in line with the Centre’s plan to implement an efficient waste management system and use the best methods for handling and disposing of waste.
Under the agreement, KEO International Consultants will provide consultancy services and feasibility studies for the development and operation of the project, covering technical, financial and environmental aspects, to extract natural gas and convert it into environmentally friendly energy. This will include studying the needs of the local market and the needs of the UAE for the project and areas that benefit from the greenhouse gases generated by the Al Dhafra landfill.
The agreement also includes drilling operations, gas extraction testing, quantities expected to be produced within 10 years at the designated site, and evaluation of the properties of the extracted gas. KEO will also develop and set tender terms prior to announcing a project bid.
Engineer Abdul Mohsen Mubarak Al Kathiri, Director of the Tadweer Projects and Facilities Department, said: “The signing of this contract is a sign of the Centre’s enhanced cooperation with relevant parties to develop waste treatment services, convert waste into energy and invest in a sustainable and safe manner. , to support the national economy and serve the Emirate of Abu Dhabi’s Sustainable Development Goals. This is in line with the Centre’s strategic plan, which is being implemented in line with Abu Dhabi Vision 2030.”
“Through the consultation agreement, we look forward to implementing the project in accordance with best standards and practices and in a manner consistent with the requirements of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi to enhance environmentally friendly energy and lead to a brighter and more sustainable future for future generations,” he added.
Dhafra’s landfill has made significant environmental efforts in extracting and sorting recyclable materials from landfills to reduce environmental impact and achieve optimal use of resources. A total of 25,524 tonnes of waste was extracted in 2021 and 12,542 tonnes in the first half of 2022 for reuse and recycling, including plastic waste, paper, cardboard, iron, wood and aluminium.
