TV sports join Turkey, parades become holiday tradition | Entertainment

NEW YORK (AP) — In addition to eating turkey and visiting family, sports on television took over the Thanksgiving weekend for many Americans.

Some of the big games have brought some TV milestones, including the most-watched regular-season professional football game ever and the most-watched football game on U.S. television, according to Nielsen.

NBC was the most popular network this week, averaging 8.2 million viewers in prime time. CBS 4.1 million, Fox 3.41 million, ABC 3.35 million, Univision 1.1 million, Ion 870,000 and Telemundo 820,000.

ESPN leads the cable networks in primetime with an average viewership of 2.99 million. Hallmark has 1.71 million, Fox News Channel has 1.64 million, Paramount has 1.24 million and MSNBC has 772,000.

ABC’s “World News Tonight” won the evening news ratings contest with an average of 8.9 million viewers. NBC’s “Nightly News” has 7.3 million and “CBS Nightly News” has 5.3 million.

For the week of November 14-20, the 20 most-watched primetime shows along with their networks and ratings:
