#TSRShadySpecies: You know, because we let you know all the latest news, we must also let you know all the latest animal species. The latest headline news is a two-headed turtle that recently hatched in Massachusetts.
according to CBS Boston, this Cape Wildlife Center I recently shared a photo of a two-headed diamondback turtle hatchling. This tortoise hatched at a nesting site in Barnstable, and it has a disease called bicephaly. This condition is described as similar to human twins conjoined at birth. This particular turtle was born with two heads and six feet.
The Cape Wildlife Center said: “Animals with this rare disease do not always survive for a long time or have a good quality of life, but these two animals give us reason to be optimistic. They have been under our care. It’s been more than two weeks, and they continue to be bright and active. They are eating, swimming and gaining weight every day. It is impossible to get into the minds of these two people, but it seems that they are working together to cope with their environment.”
The Wildlife Center also pointed out that this turtle has two spines that can be further fused under the body. Over time, they hope to learn more about this rare species.
