Two major universities in Abu Dhabi merge under NEMA Education banner

[ad_1]

ABU DHABI: Two Abu Dhabi colleges – Khawarizmi International College (KIC) and Liwa Technical College (LCT) – have merged under the umbrella of education provider NEMA Education.

The combined institution will include five senior colleges offering 25 specialized academic programs, including programs designed for engineering, health sciences, management, digital media, humanities and other majors, the college said in a statement.

In addition, NEMA Education will provide students and researchers with an advanced infrastructure including 35 applied laboratories and utilize 100 faculty members.

NEMA Education said the merger of the two colleges will increase Abu Dhabi’s higher education offerings and will provide the labor market with professionals to meet the country’s future development needs.

“The amalgamation of KIC and LCT aims to enhance academic performance and provide a growing educational environment supported by well-developed infrastructure. It also aims to guarantee the overall quality of educational programs and majors offered, as well as access to international academics from international professional institutions. Dr. Ali bin Harmal Aldhaheri, Chairman of NEMA Education Board, said: “This merger supports wise leadership’s vision to develop the education system to ensure international competitiveness. “

LCT background

LCT, formerly known as the Emirates Institute of Technology, was established in 1993 after being accredited by the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and currently offers a wide range of academic programs and has an enrollment of over 1,700 students. The merger adds to NEMA Education’s portfolio of institutions including Abu Dhabi University, Knowledge Group and KIC. These institutions have more than 10,000 students enrolled in their educational institutions and thousands more receiving professional training through their training institutions.

“The acquisition of LCT is in line with our ongoing efforts to support the National Higher Education Strategy 2030. At NEMA Education, we follow a well thought out plan and it works effectively for us to adapt to the needs of our students while developing a profession that supports the national economy talent,” said Dr. Aldhaheri.

Following the acquisition of LCT by NEMA Education, a comprehensive study was conducted and concluded that, overall, the College’s merger with KIC had a positive impact. The KIC itself was launched some forty years ago and has trained 35,000 people so far.
