Two snowsports athletes represent UAE at FIS Alpine Skiing World Championships in France

The UAE Winter Sports Federation, in partnership with Ski Dubai, is proud to announce that the UAE will be represented at the prestigious FIS Alpine Skiing World Championships in France this weekend. Abdulla Hussain Kafin and Hassan Mustafa Fardan, members of the UAE national team, will compete against the world’s elite skiers in the Savoie resorts of Courchevel and Meribel. The two snowsports athletes have been training with Ski Dubai Academy Head Coach Mohamed Moulay at Ski Dubai.

The FIS Alpine Ski World Championships is an annual event organized by the International Ski Federation (FIS), which is recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and governs alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, ski jumping, Nordic combined, freestyle skiing and Snowboarding, including setting the rules for international competitions. This year’s event will feature 600 athletes from 75 countries competing in six disciplines (downhill, super slalom, giant slalom, slalom, combined, parallel slalom).

Mohammad El Etri, Vice President Global Snow, Majid Al Futtaim Entertainment, said: “While the desert may seem an unlikely snowsports destination, we are committed to developing home-grown talent who can represent our country on the global stage. I wish Best of luck to Abdullah and Hassan this weekend. Ski Dubai is very proud to be a part of their journey and this is just the beginning!”

Hamel Alqubaisi, Vice-Chairman of the UAE Winter Sports Federation, added: “The UAE Winter Sports Federation continues to develop its development programs in the region and we are delighted to see the strong engagement of our government and country. Today, marks a milestone towards our winter sports “This is a huge success step and we are delighted to be participating in the FIS Alpine Skiing World Championships, which is a historic moment for us in the UAE. We will continue to work closely with our athletes to develop true champions and bring medals home Home.”

The UAE Winter Sports Federation and Ski Dubai have a longstanding partnership and collaborate regularly as they share a vision to foster a culture of winter sports in the MENA region. This year, the UAE was approved as a full member of the International Ski Federation (FIS) at the International Ski Congress, following a five-year campaign led by Ski Dubai and the Emirates Winter Sports Federation, paving the way for UAE snowsports athletes. The flat track entered an international competition for the first time and allowed the UAE to host an FIS-sanctioned international snowsports competition.
