U.S. immigration officials said that they have launched an investigation after the image of U.S. border guards appearing to be threatening with horse reins. Immigrant camp Along the Texas-Mexico border.

Photos and videos show border guards on horseback chasing migrants near a camp under a bridge connecting Del Río, Texas and the city of Acuna, Mexico. Officials tried to expel most of the Haitian migrants from the camp, which has housed as many as 12,000 people in recent days.

The head of the U.S. Border Patrol, Raul Ortiz, said that the incident is being investigated to ensure that law enforcement agencies will not make an “unacceptable” response. He said that officials work in difficult environments, looking for potential smugglers while trying to ensure the safety of immigrants.

Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas (Alejandro Mayorkas) stated that riding officials use long reins to “ensure control of horses.”

“But we will investigate the facts,” he said at a press conference in Del Rio.

At the same time, the White House criticized the actions of border guards on Monday.

White House spokesperson Jane Pasaki told reporters: “I don’t think people who see these shots will think it is acceptable or appropriate.”

“I don’t have complete background information. I can’t imagine what kind of background would make it suitable,” she added.

Due to the surge in border crossings in recent days, US officials have tried to clear the camp and close the border between Del Rio, Texas and Mexico.

Many Haitians who were present fled their homes after the 2010 earthquake, initially heading to South America and then to the north.

Sunday, the First flight Haitian migrants from refugee camps landed in Haiti. The repatriation flight will continue throughout the week.

U.S. authorities used controversial and pandemic-related Title 42 Health RulesCreated by former President Donald Trump to deport many immigrants without giving them the opportunity to seek asylum.

Human rights groups criticized the actions of the Biden administration, saying that given the severe security and economic situation in Haiti, these rewards are inhumane.

The assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moise in July pushed a country that was already dealing with political turmoil into a deeper level of uncertainty. A month later, a magnitude 7.2 earthquake occurred, killing more than 2,000 people and destroying the southern part of this small Caribbean island.

The U.S. State Department said in a statement that on Monday, U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Brinken spoke with Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry over the phone on migrants returning to the southern border of the United States.

State Department spokesperson Ned Price said the two men “discussed the dangers of irregular immigration, which puts individuals at great risk and often requires immigrants and their families to bear heavy debts”.
