Fifteen hotels in Abu Dhabi have been honored for having been part of the emirate’s social and cultural fabric for more than 20 years.
The Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism’s (DCT – Abu Dhabi) ‘Treasures of the City’ program, now in its second year, recognizes cafes, restaurants, shops and other businesses that continue to serve and bring joy to their communities.
DCT – Abu Dhabi Chairman Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak and Deputy Minister Saood Al Hosani and Chairman of the Department of Community Development Dr Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili presented the awards at an event held by the Capital Cultural Foundation.
“These institutions remain icons of our community and drive the emirate’s economic value and tourism,” Al Hossani said.
He added that these businesses do bring a great deal of emotion to members of the community. “Those of us who grew up or spent time in the capital will be familiar with many of these places and have fond memories associated with them.”
Al Hosani noted that the initiative is part of DCT’s strategy to preserve and promote Abu Dhabi’s unique cultural identity, share it with the world and celebrate it locally.
“You are our past, our present and our gift to future generations. You are part of our memory. You are truly a gem in Abu Dhabi. I wish you continued success and prosperity,” he added .
