Since 2006, Dubai has spent more than AED 140 billion on improving road and transport infrastructure.

Over the past 15 years, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has brought massive infrastructure improvements to the emirate.

Mattar Mohammed Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Executive Board of the RTA, said: “The length of the road network has increased from 8,715 lane kilometres in 2006 to 18,255 lane kilometres in 2020.”

Below is a list of four large-scale projects undertaken and executed by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) over the past six months to ease congestion for urban commuters.

New four-lane bridge connecting Al Manama and Al Meydan streets

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) recently opened a New bridge connecting Al Manama and Al Meydan Streets, across Al Ain Road in Dubai.

The earlier roundabout at the junction has been removed and the RTA has adjusted the sloping end of the existing bridge on Al Meydan Street.

The bridge is 328 meters long, has 4 lanes in each direction, can pass 16,000 vehicles per hour, and the sloping end of the bridge spans 400 meters.

Road project to ease traffic to Al Qudra

July, a New road project launched to ease traffic to Al Qudra Lakes It has become a favorite meeting place for residents and tourists.

The existing one-lane road will be replaced by an 11km two-lane road with two lanes in each direction.

When the project is complete, the road will have three roundabouts to ease traffic in all directions and connect to the Al Qudra Lakes entry point.

New bridge opens on Al Khaleej Street

A new bridge opened on Al Khaleej Street in May and has been easing traffic to Bur Dubai.

The bridge stretches to 570 meters and includes three lanes in the direction of Bur Dubai and the ground crossing at the intersection of Al Khaleej Street and Omar bin Al Khattab Street.

The opening is part of the Shindagha Road Corridor, one of the largest road projects undertaken by the RTA, extending 13 km from Sheikh Rashid Street, through Al Mina Street and Al Khaleej Street to Cairo Street.

The new bridge serves inbound traffic from Al Mamzar and the Deira Islands in the direction of the Shindagha Tunnel, with a capacity of 4,800 vehicles per hour.
