Sharjah residents can now easily prove their overdue rental contracts online or at various centres in the emirate with a 50% discount.
The City Council and Sharjah City Council are providing a number of channels to facilitate the implementation of the discount scheme announced by the government regarding the delay in attesting rental contracts until 31 December 2022.
Obaid Saeed Al Tunaiji, Director-General of Sharjah Municipal Government, said that since the announcement of the scheme, the municipality is providing residents with facilities and channels to easily prove overdue contracts within a short period of time. These include service centres in various areas of Sharjah, the Sharjah Municipality website or a real estate office registered in the city.
He said the decision would apply to all types of overdue rental contracts, whether residential, commercial or investments in all of its branches, which were not approved until October 18 before the decision was issued. The discount offer is valid until December 31, 2022.
Discounts do not apply to rental contract documents, but only to the value of the total annual rent.
Al Tunaiji said the decision will help safeguard the rights of landlords and tenants, as certified contracts are the official documents used by municipalities to regulate the relationship between the parties, and their approval gives them legal status.
The contract must be approved and reviewed by the municipality in order to legalize the relationship between the owner and the tenant and through this relationship guarantee all the rights of both parties.
Al Tunaiji called on residents to take advantage of the scheme and start approving any overdue contracts.
