The 7th Open Quran Recitation, organized by the Indian Society and Cultural Center (ISC) in Abu Dhabi in association with the Ministry of Awqaf, will kick off on Tuesday.

ISC Chairman D. Natarajan said the three-day competition was held to motivate nationals and expats alike to read and recite the Quran and recite it in a highly competitive environment.

“This is our seventh year hosting this prestigious event at ISC. The event is part of our social commitment to the community,” he noted.

The competition will be divided into four categories, starting with 15 sections of the Qur’an, with an age limit of 25 years. This is followed by 10 sections of the Qur’an with an age limit of 20, followed by 5 sections with an age limit of 15 and finally Quran recitation and Tajweed open to all. Competitions will be assessed by a top judging panel approved by the Ministry of Awqaf.

ISC Secretary General P. Sathyababu said the competition was open to UAE nationals and expatriates with valid residency.

“The event has received great support from the Indian and local business community. It has been receiving great feedback from the Indian diaspora community and our members.”

Winners in each category will receive cash prizes and souvenirs. In addition, all shortlisted participants will receive a certificate of appreciation and a consolation prize. The awards ceremony will be held on Saturday.

“We are expecting high attendance for this event. Admission is free. Also, prayer facilities will be arranged at the centre,” added Sathyababu.
