Serious circumstances can lead to vehicle confiscation for 60 days
Speeding is one of the leading causes of accidents, including fatal ones, in the UAE. To curb speeding violations, the government has introduced strict measures, including fines of up to Dh3,000 and vehicle forfeiture for up to 60 days in severe cases.
Radar has been installed on federal and urban roads across the country to detect violations and impose fines.
There are eight different fines for speeding, ranging from Dh300 to Dh3,000. That’s because fines increase based on how fast the driver exceeds the speed limit. Driving below the limit can also be fined if a minimum speed has been set.
Here are eight speeding-related penalties you need to know about:
- Not exceeding the maximum speed limit by more than 20 km/h: A fine of AED 300
- Not exceeding the maximum speed limit by more than 30 km/h: A fine of AED 600
- Not exceeding the maximum speed limit by more than 40 km/h: A fine of AED 700
- Not exceeding the maximum speed limit by more than 50 km/h: Dh1,000 fine
- Exceeding the maximum speed limit by up to 60 km/h: AED 1,500 fine, 6 black spots and 15 days forfeiture
- Exceeding the top speed limit by more than 60 km/h: Dh2,000, 12 black points, 30 days forfeiture
- Exceeding the maximum speed limit by more than 80 km/h: Dh3,000 fine, 23 black spots and 60 days forfeiture
- Driving below the road’s minimum speed limit (if any): Dh400 fine
