In a special video released before the UAE Women’s Day celebrated on August 28, Sheikh Mohammed said that he believes that a woman has the power of a thousand men.

“Women in the UAE are committed to education and knowledge. They have a broad and bright future,” the narration of the ruler of Dubai can be heard in the video.

“About 70% of graduates in the UAE are women. In my office, 85% of employees are women. We have high hopes for them.”

The video shows Sheikh Mohammed interacting with Emirati women who lead ministries and departments in the country.

Generally speaking, women occupy the highest leadership positions in the UAE. As of 2015, women accounted for 66% of public sector jobs, one of the highest percentages in the world. Approximately 30% hold senior leadership positions related to decision-making roles.

Recently, a series of legislation has pushed UAE women to new heights. Two recent high-profile achievements in the country—the Mars Hope probe and the launch of Barakah Nuclear Power Plant Units 1 and 2—both witnessed women’s leading role.

The country is successfully entering the world’s top 10 in the United Nations Gender Equality Index.

In the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) 2020 Gender Inequality Index (GII), the UAE ranks 18th in the world and first in the region, becoming a global leader in empowering women and their rights.

In the World Bank’s 2021 Women, Business and Law (WBL) report, the country ranks among the best in the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) region. Under the groundbreaking legislative reforms implemented in the past few years, the country’s rating in the World Bank report has taken a major leap.

It also scored a perfect score (100 points) in five indicators in the latest report: sports, workplace, wages, entrepreneurship, and pensions.

In 2019 and 2020, 11 new laws and legislative amendments were approved to strengthen women’s rights and ensure their overall empowerment.

Exactly 50% of the seats in the Federal National Assembly are held by women. They maintain a strong influence in the government, and nine women hold different positions.

The country has also issued a decree stipulating that men and women have the same salary for the same work or other work of equal value in the private sector.
