The Abu Dhabi-based company is working with an organization in the US to help remove more than 100,000 pounds of plastic from the oceans.
To mark World Oceans Day, Abu Dhabi-based investment holding company Multiply Group has joined forces with US-based 4ocean, a purpose-driven certified nonprofit with a mission to end the ocean plastic crisis. The collaboration underscores a shared commitment to the global environmental agenda, directly aligned with the themes and goals that will be discussed at COP28 in the UAE.
“Currently, plastic litter accounts for 80% of all ocean pollution, with approximately 80 to 10 million tonnes of plastic ending up in the ocean each year, impacting marine life and human health,” said Lama Al Bachir, Director of Strategy and Growth at Multiply Group.
The collaboration is part of the organization’s “Clean Up the Seas” initiative, which aims to contribute to cleaning up oceans and coastlines around the world.
“On World Oceans Day, as part of our corporate social responsibility efforts in the Year of Sustainability, Multiply Group has teamed up with 4ocean to pull 100,000 pounds of plastic from the ocean and play our part in protecting the largest ecosystem on Earth ,” Bachir pointed out.
Alex Schulze, CEO and Co-Founder of 4ocean, said: “We are delighted to see the clean seas movement gaining international attention and are delighted to be working with the Multiply Group to help clean up the world’s oceans. New partnerships like this are how we can maximize greatly expand our reach around the world.”
Earlier this year, a group of employees from the Multiply Group and its subsidiaries volunteered to clean up a stretch of shoreline in Al Nouf, Abu Dhabi, successfully collecting 420 pounds of plastic waste.
