Abu Dhabi’s Quality and Compliance Council (QCC) has confirmed that aerosol dry shampoo and personal care products that were recently recalled in the US are not sold in the emirate of Abu Dhabi due to a potentially carcinogenic chemical.

Previously, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued a warning against certain aerosol personal care products because they contain carcinogenic benzene.

Unilever has recalled several popular brands of aerosol dry shampoo, including Dove, after it found they were contaminated with a cancer-causing chemical called benzene. Brands Nexxus, Suave, Tresemmé and Tigi, which make Rockaholic and Bed Head dry shampoo, are included in the recall, according to a notice posted on the FDA’s website in October.

Sultan Al Muhairi, Director of QCC Business Development and Customer Happiness, said the Commission’s Marketing and Consumer Services division is closely monitoring and monitoring cases of commercial product withdrawals from regional and global markets through an internationally recognised electronic monitoring platform, so that cases of withdrawal of commercial products from regional and global markets can be They withdraw from the local market to take the necessary measures.

Al Muhairi said that after monitoring the withdrawal of the product in the United States, coordination in this regard was carried out immediately, and meetings were held with the brand’s exclusive agency in the region (Unilever PIC) and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). Ensure that popular commercial products of dry shampoo are withdrawn from markets and outlets in the UAE, including online platforms. According to Emarat Al Youm’s report, these products were found to be unavailable in the local UAE market, he said.

The official stressed that Unilever, the exclusive agent of the product brand, had made a request to major electronic sales platforms to remove these products from their platforms, and asked its management to communicate the recall to UAE consumers who bought any of these products, warning against objections use them.
