Abu Dhabi is once again recognized by Deep Knowledge for its advanced and solid healthcare infrastructure, commitment and leadership). This recognition reflects the emirate’s comprehensive, efficient and timely response to the Covid-19 pandemic, strengthening Abu Dhabi’s healthcare sector as a leading regional and international model.

Abu Dhabi was also named the leading city in the global response to Covid-19 in a similar report by the DKA in the first half of 2021. Since then, an additional 28 cities have been examined and added to the ranking, for a total of 100 cities now assessed.

The epidemic-fighting city ranking assesses the ongoing progress of key cities and makes supplementary policy recommendations to correct major deficiencies. The report builds on six parameters the city has been focusing on to prevent the spread of Covid-19 and demonstrate resilience and preparedness for similar public health problems in the future. These parameters are government efficiency, economic resilience, healthcare management, quarantine measures, vaccination strategies, and cultural compliance.

Thanks to its robust and successful response to the Covid-19 pandemic, Abu Dhabi has been able to ensure business continuity without any closures, which enables the emirate to maintain the health and safety of the wider community, ensure business continuity and support all sectors in driving Economic development of the emirate.

The emirate has achieved a Covid-19 testing capacity of more than 500,000 tests per day and has established 27 drive-through testing and vaccination centres across the emirate, with nearly 100% of the community vaccinated against Covid-19. In addition, Abu Dhabi has managed to increase its healthcare capacity by 200% thanks to a 300% increase in the number of hospital beds as well as the number of intensive care beds. All of this is supported by agile, data-driven, science-based and world-leading policies and interventions that have resulted in one of the lowest mortality and infection rates per capita globally.

These efforts are in line with Abu Dhabi’s efforts to position itself as a leading healthcare destination leveraging life sciences, innovation, digitalisation and medical tourism. The emirate continues to provide the latest innovative therapies to maintain the health and safety of the community. Ministry of Health signs strategic agreement with major international pharmaceutical companies to provide up-to-date treatment for patients with mild, moderate and critical symptoms and immunocompromised patients who cannot be vaccinated; and to provide preventive treatment to protect all members of the community from Covid- 19 Virus attack.

In addition, Abu Dhabi received the first global shipment of AstraZeneca’s Evusheld, which produces antibodies for immunocompromised patients. In addition, Abu Dhabi and Roche, the world’s largest biotech company, announced a strategic partnership to use the latter’s cascilimab and imdecimab for the prevention and treatment of mild to severe Covid-19 patients.
