Winners won in 14 categories, five of which named a winner in English and one in Arabic. Categories include Summer Bookworm, Awesome Adventurer, Undercover Agent, Thrill Seeker, and Poetic Heart. Other winners were crowned in categories such as Most Diverse Reader, Most Engaged Reader, Most Delightful Reading Corner and Most Creative Book Collection.
Adek hosted the winners at a celebration at its headquarters, saying their enthusiasm and ability set an example for other students.
Adek launched the Battle of the Books in May and invited students to take part in the challenge. Enrolled students are tasked with reading the most books in their favorite genre and entering the title in a digital reading journal. Participants are also challenged with periodic surprises and plot twists.
With the start of the new school year 2022/23, the two-stage team category begins with Stage 1 and runs until November, allowing schools to prepare their teams and participate in intramural training. About 72 teams will compete for places in the intercollegiate semifinal qualifiers in January and February 2023. The knockout rounds will continue until the top teams in each category remain, and then each team will advance to the finals of the competition.
Coinciding with UAE Reading Month, the March Finals will take the form of a live quiz game show where teams will compete for the championship. The final winning team of the Battle of the Books will lift the championship trophy and will award valuable additional prizes to eligible participating students in different categories.
