Abu Dhabi Public Prosecution on Tuesday ordered the imprisonment of a woman accused of posting a video on social media that may incite hatred. The Arab woman was jailed after a video of the violation went viral on various social media platforms, authorities said.

According to the authorities, the video “constitutes an insult to men and domestic workers and violates general customs and moral norms”. The Abu Dhabi Public Prosecution has issued a jail order for the accused following an investigation into a video posted on social media that was deemed to incite hate speech.

“Anyone who commits an act involving hate speech by any means of expression or in any other manner shall be sentenced to imprisonment for not less than 5 years and a fine of not less than Dh500,000 and not more than Dh1, 000,000 or both one of the punishments.

Acquiring or possessing documents, publications, sound recordings, films, tapes, discs, software and smart applications that offend religion, incite discrimination or contain hate speech, with the intention of distributing or making them available to the public, will also be punished by law, according to the UAE Public Prosecution Authority. punishment.

The same penalties apply to any person who acquires or possesses any means of printing, recording, storing, sound or video recording equipment or other publishing, broadcasting or promotional material which is knowingly used for any of the offenses set forth in this Federal Act .

Anti-Discrimination/Anti-Hate Laws

In July 2015, Federal Decree No. 2 of 2015 (PDF) on Combating Discrimination and Hate was passed to protect everyone in the UAE, thus taking the concept of social security to a new level.

The Act aims to provide a solid legislative basis for an environment of tolerance, coexistence and acceptance. It aims to combat discrimination against individuals or groups based on religion, caste, creed, race, color or national origin.

It criminalizes any act that incites religious hatred and/or insults religion through any form of expression, including speech and written text, books, pamphlets or online media. The law also prohibits any act considered an insult to God, his prophets or apostles or holy books or houses of worship or cemeteries.

The law prohibits any entity or group formed specifically to incite religious hatred, and recommends severe punishment for groups or supporters of any organization or individual associated with hate crimes.

It also prohibits any type of event, such as conferences and conferences, within the UAE for the sole purpose of sowing discrimination, discord or hatred against individuals or groups.

Providing financial support for such activities will also be punished under the new law.

The law encourages anyone involved in any illegal activity to voluntarily surrender to the authorities, and has provisions allowing courts to waive punishment in such cases.
