UAE achieves paradigm shift in equal pay for men and women-News

[ad_1]

In the past three years, the UAE has created a paradigm shift to close the gap related to the pay gap between men and women in the same workplace or companies of the same value.

Equal pay for men and women is an important part of respect for human rights and its commitment to achieving gender balance. In the Gender Inequality Index (GII) of the UNDP Human Development Report 2020, the country ranks 18th in the world and 1st in the region.

Tomorrow, September 18th, the UAE will celebrate the International Day of Equal Pay with countries around the world. It was approved by the United Nations (UN) as an annual occasion to strengthen efforts to empower women and girls and remove all obstacles to achieving equality between men and women in the labor market.

According to the World Bank’s 2021 “Women, Business and Law” (WBL) report, the UAE ranks among the best in the MENA region due to a number of legislative reforms related to women’s economic participation promulgated in the past three years. The annual report includes eight indicators surrounding women’s interaction with the law at the beginning, progress, and end of their careers. These indicators are mobility, workplace, salary, marriage, parenthood, entrepreneurship, assets and pensions.

This year, the UAE scored 82.5 points (out of 100 points), compared with 56 points for the 2020 version and 29 points for the 2019 version. The UAE also scored a perfect score (100 points) in five indicators in the latest report: sports, workplace, wages, entrepreneurship and pensions.

In the World Economic Forum (WEF) 2021 Global Gender Gap Report, the UAE ranks first in the Arab world. The UAE also ranks first in the world in the four indicators reported: women in parliament, sex ratio at birth, literacy rate and primary school enrollment.

The UAE Labor Law stipulates that “if female employees are engaged in the same work or other work of equal value, they shall receive the same salary as men.” Federal Law No. 06 of 2020 stipulates that men’s and women’s wages are equal in the private sector in September 2020. Effective month.

The UAE Labor Law stipulates that all restrictions on women’s night work and complex jobs such as mining, construction, manufacturing, energy, agriculture and transportation should be lifted, and women are given the right to work in these industries. The law does not allow employers to terminate the services of a professional woman or warn her because she is pregnant.

The law prohibits employees from discriminating in obtaining jobs and promotions, as well as gender discrimination in jobs with the same job function.

Women in the UAE maintain an extraordinary presence in various business fields; for example, women account for 64% of employees in the education sector, the same percentage of the total number of doctors, nurses, and technicians in the health sector, and the same percentage of the total number of employees in the financial, banking and insurance industries. 31%.

The number of licensed companies owned by women is 80,025, while women account for 21.5% of management positions and 32.5% of professionals.

According to the United Nations, the General Assembly urged action to achieve the goal of equal pay for equal work for all. It encourages all stakeholders to continue to support the goal of equal pay for equal work.
