ISLAMABAD: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Saturday formally agreed to Senior Foreign Minister Faisal Niaz Tirmidzi as Pakistan’s ambassador to the UAE.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has received the “agreement”.
Ambassador Faisal Niaz Tirmizi is attached to the Pakistan Foreign Ministry (PFS) and previously served as Special Envoy to Kyrgyzstan for about four years. He played an important role in strengthening Pakistan-Kyrgyzstan relations.
He succeeds Afzaal Mahmood, who was relieved of his duties after receiving a pension.
In another major development, the outgoing Pakistani ambassador to Turkey, Dr Syrus Sajjad Qazi (nominated as the next foreign minister), has returned home and could accept a new appointment within a few days.
A committee to consider grades will be held early next month. Dr. Yousaf Junaid has taken up the post of Pakistan’s new ambassador to Turkey in Ankara. He is from a trade and business group and was the Consul General of Pakistan in Istanbul for eighteen years until December 2017.

Tilmiz joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1993 and has handled bilateral, multilateral, consular and administrative assignments at headquarters and abroad. Faisal Niaz Tirmizi is a graduate of Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, and the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, and has served in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as Director of the Office of Middle East, Central Asia, Afghanistan, India, and Director of the Office of the Secretary of State for Personnel, Protocol and Foreign Affairs. He has served in various Pakistani missions abroad in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan (1996-1999), the Permanent Mission of Pakistan to the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland (2003-2007) and Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (2007-2010). Diplomatic mission. Faisal Tirmizi has also lectured on global and regional issues at key think tanks and universities, including the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, University of Michigan (Ann-Arbor), Purdue University (Calume), Valparaiso University (Indiana) ) and the United States Air Force Academy (Colorado Springs).
