UAE, Albania boost government cooperation

The UAE and the Republic of Albania discussed modalities for bilateral cooperation in government development during the official visit of a UAE government delegation to Tirana as part of the UAE government’s experience exchange programme.

This is within the scope of both parties’ efforts to launch a government development cooperation agreement, signed between His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and Edi Rashid, Prime Minister of Dubai. Signed under the witness of Mary. Republic of Albania, at the 2023 World Government Summit last February.

The UAE government delegation included Abdulla Nasser Lootah, Undersecretary of Cabinet Affairs for Competitiveness and Experience Exchange; Sulaiman Al Mazrouei, UAE Ambassador to the Republic of Greece, and Non-Resident Ambassador of the UAE to the Republic of Albania; Manal bin Salem, Head of the Government Experience Exchange Program Team.

The delegation met Milva Ekonomi, Minister of State for Standards and Services of Albania, and Elira Kokona, Deputy Secretary-General of the Albanian Council of Ministers. The meeting drew on the UAE’s advanced experience in developing government work, discussed ways to activate bilateral government development cooperation, and identified priority areas.

The delegation also met Mirlinda Karcanaj, Director of the National Information Society Agency, to discuss the promotion of joint work and coordination for the development and management of digital systems and the advancement of Albania’s digital society. Another meeting was held with the Albanian Academy of Public Administration to explore new approaches aimed at strengthening cooperation in government capacity building and staff training in Albanian government priority areas.

The visit also included a meeting with Sokol Nano, Executive Director of the Albanian Investment and Development Agency, to explore mechanisms to increase Albania’s tourism potential, boost investment and increase the competitiveness of the private sector.

The UAE delegation discussed with Besfort Lamallari, Deputy Minister of the Interior of Albania, the areas of cooperation and the exchange of experience and knowledge of the government in sectors such as innovation, services and training.

Abdulla Nasser Lootah confirmed that the UAE government, under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, is keen to Expand the field of knowledge exchange and share its advanced experience with governments around the world to develop a new module of work and strengthen their future readiness on the basis of sustainable development.

He said the meeting with Albanian officials was part of a joint effort to initiate the government’s development of a bilateral cooperation agreement, signed at the World Government Summit in 2023, as part of the government’s plan to exchange experiences. He further highlighted successful examples of governments working to transform this joint effort into constructive and purposeful partnerships to strengthen government work and improve efficiency, performance and readiness for the future, for the benefit of individuals and societies.

For her part, Milva Ekonomi affirmed Albania’s desire to strengthen ties with the UAE government, especially in the field of development and knowledge exchange in different areas of government work. She commended the UAE government’s visit and the efforts of the working team, paving the way for further cooperation and benefiting from the UAE’s experience.

The partnership agreement between the governments of the UAE and the Republic of Albania was signed by Mohammad bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and Chairman of the World Government Summit, and Milva Ekonomi, Albia’s Minister of State for Standards and Services. It focuses on exchanging knowledge, expertise and best practice in government development, sharing successes in the areas of excellence, innovation, performance, government accelerators and service development, and capacity building and empowerment for future challenges.
