UAE ambassador returns to Iran: UAE scholar

TEHRAN – An influential Emirati academic claims that the ambassador of the United Arab Emirates has returned to Iran.

Abdul Haleq Abdullah, an academic who is said to have been an adviser to UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, tweeted that the UAE ambassador, Saif Zabi, had returned to Iran.

“The UAE Ambassador, His Excellency Saif Zabi, has returned to Tehran to carry out his work, opening a new chapter in UAE-Iran relations,” Abdullah said. “Your Excellency travels to a difficult capital on a more difficult diplomatic mission.”

Abdullah also called on Iran to give the UAE ambassador a good reception and facilitate his mission.

Abdullah’s remarks followed a phone conversation between the foreign ministers of Iran and the UAE.

Iran’s foreign minister, Hussein Amir Abdullahian, and his UAE counterpart, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, discussed in a telephone conversation, Iran’s foreign ministry said. The most important issues of mutual concern and the latest developments in sanctions lifting negotiations.

Iran’s foreign minister reiterated that the foreign policy of President Ibrahim Raisi’s administration prioritizes relations with its neighbors.

Amir Abdullahian also expressed his pleasure at the expanding relationship between the two countries and called for the resolution of some of the consular issues faced by Iranian diaspora in the UAE, including Iranian schools.

The top Iranian diplomat then spoke with Emirati diplomats on the latest developments in the sanctions lifting talks.

Amir Abdullahian stressed that the Islamic Republic of Iran has shown good will and seriousness in reaching a strong and lasting agreement with other parties, “My colleagues are carefully and expeditiously studying the proposed draft agreement and preparing Responded.”

During the telephone conversation, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan also mentioned the importance of relations with Iran to the UAE, and announced that it is ready to expand economic and trade cooperation with Tehran. He added that the UAE is ready to hold bilateral economic and consular meetings with Iran.

The UAE Foreign Minister then extended warm greetings from UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed to the leader of the Islamic Revolution in Iran and the President of Iran. He expressed hope that he can travel to Tehran in the near future.

Amir Abdullahian also conveyed the Iranian President’s greetings to Sheikh Zayed during a meeting with the UAE Foreign Minister.

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs also issued a statement on the call. “During the talks, the two sides discussed bilateral relations and ways to advance and strengthen them, which are in the common interests of both countries and regions,” the statement said.

“They also exchanged views on some regional and international issues of mutual interest,” it added.

“Sheikh Abdullah underlined the UAE’s keenness to strengthen cooperation with neighbouring countries in order to consolidate the pillars of security and stability in the region and realize the aspirations of its people for development and prosperity,” the statement concluded.
