UAE AML/CFT expert group deepens engagement with international partners over past six months

Abu Dhabi [UAE]13 April (ANI/WAM): The UAE Anti-Money Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism Expert Group (AML/CFT) held several productive meetings with its international counterparts in late 2022 and early 2023.

The UAE delegation, coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, also included representatives from the Executive Office for Anti-Money Laundering/Combating the Financing of Terrorism, the UAE Central Bank, the UAE Financial Intelligence Unit, the Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Finance, Justice, Law Enforcement Agencies, and Control and Executive Office for Nonproliferation.

Meetings of the expert group in recent months have built on established bilateral discussions with partners including Australia, Canada, Singapore, Japan, South Africa, Italy, France, India, Spain and the European Union.

A technical dialogue took place on topics of global concern, in addition to discussing AML/CFT progress in the UAE and steps taken in recent months to improve its systems and close any existing gaps. These include exchanging best practices on regulation of financial institutions and designated non-financial corporations and professions, beneficial ownership transparency, and the use of financial intelligence.
