UAE and Austria issue joint statement on comprehensive strategic partnership-News

The agreement was signed by Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology of the UAE, and Alexander Schallenberg, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Austria, in the presence of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan; Sheikh Mohamed bin Hama, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Airport De Bin Tahnon Al Nahyan; Mohamed Mubarak Al Mazrouei, Deputy Secretary of the Crown Court of Abu Dhabi, Ibrahim Salem Al Musharakh, UAE Ambassador to Austria, Mag. Austrian Finance Minister Gernot Blumel and Digital and Economic Affairs Minister Dr. Margarete Schramböck.

Key areas of cooperation

>> The two sides agreed that strengthening bilateral cooperation in the following areas is conducive to the common interests of the two countries and identified them as priority areas for key cooperation.

Politics, diplomacy and international cooperation

>> They envisioned increasing the frequency of high-level visits and diplomatic exchanges, establishing common bilateral priorities and agendas, and strengthening political dialogue and diplomatic consultations.

>> The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to establishing an international order with the United Nations as the core and rules-based. They will explore opportunities for cooperation in multilateral institutions, including the United Nations, to promote and strengthen effective multilateralism, including the promotion of tolerance and human rights.

>> The two countries envision working together to promote tolerance, combat international crime, extremism and terrorism, and work together to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

>> They also envisaged exploring cooperation in humanitarian aid and relief work. The two sides will explore opportunities to exchange views on international development in areas of common interest in developing countries and regions.

Economy, energy, trade, direct investment and sectoral partnerships

>> Both countries envision a closer economic relationship and work to remove regulatory barriers to create a more favorable environment for companies to encourage substantial growth in trade and investment in the next five years.

Expo 2020 Dubai

>> The two countries agreed to use the 2020 Dubai World Expo to be held in Dubai from October 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022, with the theme “Connecting Thoughts and Creating the Future” to create and strengthen a lasting bilateral business-to-business partnership .

>> Both parties stand out as regional hubs and starting points for product launches in highly affluent markets, where rapid expansion is possible. In order to continue to increase investment to create broad growth, both parties hope to shape the basic conditions to make their business locations more attractive. They also reaffirmed their commitment to promote business exchanges between SMEs in the two countries by establishing a high-level joint business-to-business framework.

Commercial Industry and Investment Partnership

>> They envision cooperation in vocational education and training (VET), with a focus on company-based training to support the future economy’s demand for skilled workers. The participation of Austrian companies with branches in the UAE can support this in a productive way.

>> The two countries will seek cooperation opportunities, promote the exchange of best economic practices and knowledge, provide support for the capacity building and development of innovative sustainable economies, and further expand mutual trade support and cooperation in the field of infrastructure projects.

>> The UAE and Austria will use the existing visa-free agreements to strengthen cooperation in the tourism sector and coordinate their respective industry policies by encouraging relevant institutions to share research, data and market insights.

>> Both countries emphasize the importance of information and communication technology and digitization in the public and private sectors, and plan to cooperate and exchange best practice cases in this field. They will also work together to advance their industrial partnership, focusing on 4IR technology.

>> They intend to strengthen cooperation between the petrochemical and oil and gas industries throughout the value chain. The two parties also plan to strengthen cooperation in the field of renewable energy including solar and wind energy, especially exploring the possibility of cooperation in the fields of hydrogen energy and other innovative energy technologies, energy efficiency and conservation, such as sharing technical knowledge, skills and expertise Knowledge.

>> The two parties intend to establish a bilateral hydrogen energy alliance, especially composed of members of the Abu Dhabi Hydrogen Energy Alliance and major participants in the Austrian private sector, to establish a cooperation framework in finance, new technology research and development, export and trade.

Education culture

>> The two countries will strengthen cooperation in the fields of art, culture and heritage, strengthen links between educational, academic and research institutions, strengthen cooperation in sports and youth participation, and promote joint investment in entertainment and creative industries by Austria and the UAE.

>> They also envisaged the promotion of cultural exchanges, especially youth exchanges, to promote mutual understanding between the societies of the two countries, conduct cross-cultural dialogues, and strengthen cooperation between the two countries in joint cultural projects.

>> The two parties envisage to cooperate in the development of strategies for persons with disabilities aimed at ensuring equal rights and opportunities for all members of their society.

Health and medical cooperation

>> The two countries emphasized that in addition to scientific cooperation and the provision of emergency medical supplies to countries in need, they are also committed to strengthening international cooperation to respond to the epidemic by sharing best practices.

>> They envisioned strengthening cooperation in the field of health and medical cooperation, strengthening the links between relevant departments, hospitals, medical universities and colleges, strengthening cooperation in health courses and projects, and promoting joint medical research and development in Austria and the UAE. They also envisioned promoting medical investment in the two countries, especially in the medical and pharmaceutical industries.

Implement strategic comprehensive partnership

>> The joint statement marked the entry of a new and dynamic phase in the bilateral relations between the UAE and the Republic of Austria.

In this regard, the leaders intend to appoint ministers from both sides to ignore the implementation of the comprehensive strategic partnership, especially the work of the Intergovernmental Cooperation Committee, which will ensure coordination and cooperation among all relevant stakeholders and institutions in various fields. And jointly prepare an annual progress report covering all key cooperation areas.
