UAE and Germany sign energy security industry accelerator agreement

[ad_1]

The UAE and Germany have announced the signing of a new Energy Security and Industry Accelerator (ESIA) agreement that will accelerate projects of mutual interest between the two countries in energy security, decarbonization and climate action.

The agreement was signed at Federal Economic Affairs and Climate The Ministry of Operations, UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed and German Chancellor Olaf Schultz were present, along with a number of ministers and senior officials.

As part of the agreement, Adnoc has entered into an LNG supply agreement with RWE AG (RWE), where Adnoc will supply LNG cargoes for delivery by the end of 2022 for the commissioning of the Floating LNG Import Terminal in Brunsbüttel, Germany.

In addition, Adnoc added that by 2023, Adnoc has also reserved more LNG cargoes exclusively for German customers.

Adnoc said it also has several agreements with German customers, including Steag GmbH (Steag) and Aurubis AG (Aurubis) for a demonstration cargo of low-carbon ammonia, a hydrogen carrier fuel that could play a key role in hard decarbonization Effect – reduce the industrial sector.

The first of these shipments arrived in Hamburg earlier this month. Under the proposed ESIA, the two countries are expected to explore additional opportunities to accelerate growth and collaboration across the hydrogen value chain.

Masdar, the UAE’s renewable energy leader, will actively explore opportunities in the German North Sea and Baltic offshore wind markets to generate up to 10GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, according to the necessary German policy and regulatory requirements.

Adnoc this month completed the UAE’s first direct deliveries of diesel to Germany and has reached an agreement with Wilhelm Hoyer GmbH & Co. KG (Hoyer) to supply up to 250,000 tonnes of diesel per month in 2023.

Scholz praised the agreements, saying: “Through ESIA, we are able to rapidly implement strategic lighthouse projects in key areas such as renewable energy, hydrogen, LNG and climate action.”

The German chancellor is on a two-day visit to the Gulf region.

Dr Sultan Al Jaber said: “This new landmark agreement strengthens the rapidly growing energy partnership between the UAE and Germany.”

“As we embrace the energy transition, Adnoc is fully committed to accelerating and investing in energy security, decarbonisation and climate action projects as we continue to be a responsible and reliable supplier of low carbon energy and a trusted exporter,” he added.

Deputy Prime Minister and Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action Robert Harbeck said: “We very much welcome the acceleration of the joint lighthouse project in the areas of climate action, decarbonisation and energy security.”

“We look forward to working closely in the UAE and Germany on offshore wind, other renewables and hydrogen,” he added.-TradeArabia News Service
