UAE and Iran condemn attempt to assassinate Imran Khan

DUBAI/TEHRAN (Dunya News) – The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Iran on Friday strongly condemned the attack on former prime minister and Pakistan Justice Movement (PTI) president Imran Khan during the Long March.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani condemned the assassination attempt against former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan in a statement on Friday.

The spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also prayed to Almighty God for the speedy recovery of the former prime minister and others injured in the incident.

On the other hand, the UAE also strongly condemned the attempted assassination of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, expressing its solidarity and stance with Pakistan and its people in the face of violence and terrorism.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MoFAIC) affirmed that the UAE strongly condemns these criminal acts aimed at undermining security and stability and violating human values and principles.

It may be recalled that former Prime Minister and Pakistan Justice Movement (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, other party leaders including Senator Faisal Javid were injured after the Long March container was shot and one person died.

The shooting took place at the Long March reception camp in Arawala Bazaar, Wazirabad.

District police officer Ghazanfar Ali said one person was killed and ten others were injured in the attack.

A bullet hit him in the shin, PTI spokesman Fawad Chaudhry said. “Imran Khan and (Party colleague) Faisal Javed suffered gunshot wounds. The bullet hit IK in the shin. Both have been taken to hospital for treatment,” Chowdhury said.

Fawad further said that three people were wounded in the attack, including Senators Faisal Javid and Ahmed Chatta.

According to reports and a blurred image, Imran Khan was later seen wearing a bandage on his right leg, just above his foot. He was transferred from his container truck to another vehicle, from where he was declared safe.

Earlier, the alleged attacker said in his initial confession that his only target was the former prime minister. In the initial statement, the alleged attacker said he suddenly decided to assassinate Imran Khan because he misled people. The attacker also said no one supported his actions, adding that he did it alone.
